Top 10 Move-Out Reminders

During Finals Week, it’s easy to forget those last few things on your to-do list.

1. Take a Study Break – Make these last few days on campus before the semester ends worth it.

If your summer is going to be anything like mine, your days are limited until work, internships, summer school, awkward reunions with hometown friends and cheesy family vacations take over your life. While you’re still here, take some time to hang out in the arboretum on a sunny afternoon, play frisbee in Polk Place or have a night out with friends. With all the stress of exams, it’s hard to remember that it will be a solid three and a half months before most of us get to come back to the Hill.

Here are some events happening around campus to help you prepare for your exams:

PASS Exam Fair
Stop by the P.A.S.S. Exam Fair for snacks, crafts, scantrons, blue books and much more!
  • Finals Boot Camp, April 24-May 3 in SASB North. Stop by the Learning Center for snacks, quiet study areas, raffles and mini-workshops.
  • P.A.S.S. Exam Support Fair, Monday, April 29, 6-8 p.m. in the Union Great Hall. This event includes massages, craft stations, gaming stations, blue books, scantrons, make-your-own trail mix bar, pizza, Med Deli and much more! Sponsored by Student Wellness and Housing and Residential Education.
  • Reading Day Stress Relief with Campus Rec, Monday, April 29 in the SRC. Zumba: 4-5 p.m., Cardio Blast: 5:15-6 p.m., Muscle Cut: 6:15-7 p.m., Bliss Down Yoga: 7:15-8:15 p.m.

New student concerns for 2012-2013

You’re so excited to move to Chapel Hill and begin your life as a Tar Heel. But you still have a few lingering questions that you asked us last week. Don’t worry; we have all the information here about how to make it a smooth transition to campus!

On your move-in day, you will have 40 minutes to unload your car. Then you can begin to bring items up to your room.

What day can I move in? When should I arrive to campus on my assigned date?

The schedule is assigned by building and room number (this is also listed on page 8 of your move-in guide). It is staggered with the intent of decreasing lines and waiting as nearly 3,500 first-year and transfer students make their way to campus for the fall semester. Following the schedule helps move in be as smooth and easy as possible for everyone involved.

Can I move in later? What’s the latest I can move in?

You can move in on August 19 or 20 if that works better for your schedule. However, if you are arriving after the first day of class (August 21), you will need to notify Housing in writing. Email housing@unc.edu or send a fax to 919-962-1006.

How to pick up mail and packages

There's even a basket of lollipops. What more could you ask for?

If you happen to be the first one of your siblings to leave for college, your family is probably going to have a bit of a hard time letting go. How will they remedy this? Maybe by sending you care packages to remind you that you are supposed to miss them a lot more and that you haven’t called in the last month. Well, maybe not that much of a guilt trip, but just to say that they love you!

Perhaps you are going to buy your books online and you haven’t bought them yet for class by the time that you get to campus in the fall, and you have to ship your books to campus. Where are they going to go? You need to get them – you can’t get through your classes without your textbook no matter what you think.

The answer to all of this: Spencer and Morrison Package Centers! Check out this video that shows where to address your package, how to pick it up, and where to do so.
