Where did you live your first year? How was it different from this year?

I lived in Hinton James my first year at UNC, living there was completely different from living in Taylor Hall.  HJ has so much energy and you can’t help but get to know your suite-mates really well.  In Taylor you have a more laid-back experience, you can get out and meet everyone on your hall or you can relax in your room all day, it’s totally up to you.

What is your favorite part of living in Taylor Hall?

I absolutely LOVE having my own room.  I enjoy having a space that is all my own so I’ve gotten used to decorating with splashy colors and taking some time out of each day for myself in my room.  Then of course it is great to take two steps out of my door and socialize with my roommates.

Tell us about Carolina Style.  What things do you enjoy about working in front of the camera?

Carolina Style is a program on Student Television that brings the fabulous world of fashion to UNC and spotlights trendsetters on campus.  It is so much fun to interview people on-camera.  I used to be really shy so this show is me coming out of my shell in a major way.  Plus I love fashion so I could talk about it for days!

What is one thing you wish you knew as a first-year?

I wish I knew that it was okay to try a million things and only choose a few to stick to.

What has been your most treasured memory at Carolina so far?

Going on a spring break trip to Florida last March has to be one of my most treasured memories.  It was not so much the actual trip but more so the amazing friends that I’ve made here at Carolina and how tremendously responsible I’ve become living away from home that made the trip so great.  I love my girls!

What is your favorite thing about your major/minors?

Global Studies broadens your mind so much.  There are so many things to learn about the world, studying globalization and different cultures definitely changes the way you think about everything.  My minor in Art History comes out of my obsession with art museums, I used to love going to the MOMA [Museum of Modern Art] and Met [Metropolitan Museum of Art] with my mother when I was a kid.  Taking art history here just brings my fond memories into present-day.

With such an emphasis on Carolina academics, how do you choose to relax?

I sleep! *laughs* I also don’t have a TV so I’ll watch reruns of old shows like Ugly Betty on my computer.  You know the girl with a cabinet full of beauty products? That’s me.  In my spare time I love to pamper myself or go shopping with my friends.  A mud mask and some retail therapy do wonders when you’re having a tough week.

Do you ever get homesick? How do you deal with that?

I don’t really get homesick; Charlotte’s not too far away and I actually like being on my own.

What advice do you have for staying healthy and in-shape?

Eat as many veggies as you can with each meal.  I like to snack on fruit while I’m studying and it makes such a difference.  Your body needs nourishment to keep you going.  By making good food choices most of the time you will feel better not to mention look pretty nice.  I would also say definitely walk whenever to wherever you possibly can, you’ll get some fresh Carolina air, take in the sights, and get those endorphins pumping.

What is one silly thing you want to do before your junior year is over?

Hmm.. either rush Franklin in one of those full-body blue suits or go puddle-splashing in spring!
